Job description
Help shape safer, more sustainable and higher-quality water consultancy
Purpose and scope of the role
Tetra Tech is seeking an HSEQ Advisor to support the Head of HSEQ in maintaining and improving an Integrated Management System covering health and safety, environment and quality. You will support multiple contracts and accountability centres across South England and Wales, working with operational teams, managers, regional leads, contractors and clients.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing audits, monitoring incidents and corrective actions, assessing operational risks, supporting bids and new contracts, and producing weekly and month-end performance reports. You will also support contractor onboarding, CDM updates and the delivery of Tetra Tech's BEST behavioural safety programme within the Asset, Surveying and Inspection team, which provides specialist services to the UK water industry.
Your impact in this position
In the short term, you will help maintain compliance, improve reporting and ensure actions are completed effectively. Over time, your insight will support continual improvement, reduce operational risk and strengthen HSEQ performance across regional operations.
You will work on significant water, drainage, surveying, leakage, water resources and efficiency projects, while developing your expertise across a broad consultancy environment. A personal development plan and transparent career pathway will support progression into senior HSEQ, management or specialist roles.
Core Capabilities
- Audit and assurance - Experience planning, conducting and reporting audits, identifying improvement opportunities, monitoring actions and sharing business-wide learning.
- Legislative and regulatory knowledge - Practical understanding of UK health and safety requirements, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and RIDDOR.
- Risk and incident management - Ability to review risk assessments, recognise hazards, support investigations and implement measures that prevent recurrence.
- Communication and reporting - Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and engage confidently with operational teams, contractors and clients.
- Collaboration and organisation - A structured, proactive approach to managing competing priorities across multiple contracts and regional accountability centres.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Expected: NEBOSH Certificate or higher, accredited ISO Auditor training, relevant HSEQ experience and a full UK driving licence. You should be confident using standard reporting tools and working with operational teams.
Desirable: experience in water, engineering or consultancy environments; CDM coordination; behavioural safety programmes; contractor management; and integrated management systems.
Work patterns and locations
This regional role involves travel across the North West and Midlands, with attendance at offices, client sites and project locations according to business needs. Hybrid and flexible working may be available for suitable activities, with office attendance agreed with the team and role requirements.
