About the Opportunity

Technology plays a crucial role in our work on flood resilience, and our growing Hydroinformatics team forms a bridge between Jacobs' extensive domain knowledge and the company's digital expertise. We are dedicated to developing and applying the latest research and best practice through innovative data science and analysis, and software tools and solutions to help solve the tough challenges that our clients and internal teams face.

We are looking for a candidate who brings together knowledge of UK flood modelling, flood risk analysis, and flood appraisal economics, with experience in coding and geospatial data analysis.

You will primary be working on a range of flood and water projects and products, working as part of an integrated, forward thinking and highly skilled team with the opportunity to collaborate with key industry experts.

  • Assessing, developing and implementing flood risk, water and economics methods.

  • Applying geospatial data analysis and software automation alongside domain knowledge.

  • Working directly with internal and external clients.

  • Seeking and implementing technical innovation.

  • Taking ownership and responsibility for the quality of project work to meet the highest standards.

    Here's What You'll Need:

  • BSc/BEng degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.

  • Proven experience in the flood sector, preferably in flood risk analysis, flood modelling and/or flood economics.

  • Proven ability in software development, geospatial data analysis and/or data science; coding best practice and working with common software development tools and processes (such as Git). We typically work in Python and R, with SQL databases and AWS and Azure cloud resources.

  • Skilled at collaborative working, with good interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

    Desirable:

  • Experience of working with open source geospatial technology stacks.

  • Experience of working with cloud-native technologies.

  • Experience of applying software/data engineering skills as part of a development team and producing production-ready code.

  • Experience of applying coding skills on flood risk projects.

  • Experience of working in the UK flood risk management sector.
