About the Opportunity

Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.

Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.

We are seeking an Environmental Lead to join the Commissioning team on one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As an Environmental Lead you will be part of a team supporting the Commissioning Delivery Team to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences and consents. You will provide front line advice to enable the Commissioning team to protect of the environment and you will work collaboratively with our Site Environment Team and Tier 1 Partners across the project to drive forward environmental performance. You will liaise with environmental technical and engineering teams to support the substantiation of environmental protection equipment. Key responsibilities include:
  • Undertaking site inspections of Commissioning work areas and relaying observations and/or reporting environmental issues where necessary,
  • Provision of written and verbal advice on environment legislation, permits, and environmental planning constraints for all activities on site;
  • Interface with Site and Bristol based environment teams to support compliance with environmental legislation and demonstration of substantiation of environmental protection equipment
  • Gather and collate environmental performance information on Commissioning's activities
  • Reviewing of Commissioning Environmental Management Plan to ensure it is compliant with environmental regulations and NNB standards and ensuring the requirements are implemented within Commissioning arrangements;
  • Support the delivery of environmental training to Commissioning technicians and engineers
  • Support for the self-assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against applicable legislation, NNB processes and procedures and environmental best practice;


Here's What You'll Need:

  • Experience in an Environmental Management role on a dynamic construction, commissioning or industrial project (site based)
  • Detailed knowledge of environmental legislation in the UK relevant to construction or industrial installations, plus knowledge of the supporting guidance, reference notes, industry best practice
  • Must be able to work independently and demonstrate excellent communication/interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or engineering/science related discipline
  • Experience of operating within an environmental management system (EMS) conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2015)
  • Ability to prioritise work in a complex and fast-moving project environment with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Previous experience of working on nuclear or high hazard industry would be advantageous.
  • Awareness of the client/contractor relationship and legal responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 would be desirable
