The role

Are you an experienced Business Analyst who can turn complex organisational problems into clear, evidence-based requirements and practical improvements?

LSBU is seeking an accomplished Business Analyst to join our Digital team. You will work across services and technology initiatives, helping colleagues understand current processes, define future needs, and translate business outcomes into requirements that delivery teams can act upon.

Working with senior stakeholders, service owners, technical specialists, suppliers and project teams, you will lead discovery and analysis activities from initial problem definition through implementation and benefits realisation. You will bring structure to ambiguity, challenge assumptions constructively, and ensure that proposed changes are grounded in user needs, operational evidence, and measurable value.

What you will do:

• Lead discovery, requirements, elicitation and analysis across complex, cross-functional change initiatives.
• Map and critically assess current processes, data, systems, pain points and controls, then design clear future-state options.
• Produce high-quality analysis outputs, including problem statements, process maps, user journeys, business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, options, appraisals and benefits measures.
• Facilitate workshops and interviews with stakeholders at all levels, resolving conflicting needs, and building shared understanding.
• Work closely with product, project, technical, data and service teams to ensure requirements are understood, traceable, testable, and aligned to business outcomes.
• Support prioritisation, solution evaluation, testing, readiness, implementation, and post-change review.
• Advocate proportionate use of automation, Microsoft 365 and AI where these can demonstrably improve services, while keeping user needs and business value at the centre.
• Manage the digital teams Jira roadmap

This vacancy is aimed at applicants who have already established themselves as Business Analysts.

Your application should show direct ownership of substantial analysis assignments and explain the methods you used, the complexity you managed, the recommendations you made, and the outcomes achieved.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate

• Substantial professional experience working as a Business Analyst on complex digital, service or organisational change.

• A strong track record of independently planning and leading analysis from discovery through delivery, rather than only supporting another analyst or project lead.

• Advanced practical use of recognised Business Analysis techniques, with sound judgement about which approach to use and when.

• Experience engaging senior leaders, operational colleagues, technical specialists and users, including situations where priorities of conflict or requirements are unclear.

• Excellent process analysis, requirements of management and written communication skills, with the ability to create concise, decision-ready outputs.

• The confidence to test assumptions, identify root causes, and distinguish genuine business needs from requested solutions.

• Experience working in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid environments and collaborating throughout design, build, testing and implementation.

• Evidence that your analysis has led to measurable service improvement, efficiency, risk reduction, improved user experience, or better decision-making.

• A practical interest in AI, automation and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, combined with the discipline to recommend technology only where it addresses a validated need.

What you will bring

The successful candidate will bring credibility gained through significant hands-on Business Analysis experience. You will be comfortable operating with limited direction, moving between strategic context and detailed analysis, and adapting your approach to the scale and risk of each assignment. You will be analytical, curious, and outcome-focused, with the interpersonal skill to create constructive challenges and maintain productive relationships.

We are particularly interested in the depth and quality of your Business Analysis experience. Experience within higher education, the public sector, or another large and complex organisation would be advantageous.
