The Detention Services Compliance Team operate within the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), ensuring that the Contracted Service Provider provides the required levels of service and care for the residents detained there, as well as oversight of all the operational activity.

Job descriptionThe role of the Operations & Compliance team on-site is interesting and challenging, demanding high levels of co-operation from our clients, stakeholders, and suppliers. The main focus of the role is monitoring, auditing & compliance testing of the service provider. The small team provides a 24/7 service made up of shift work including weekends and on call.
As a Deputy Compliance Manager, you will be one of a team who monitor the standards within the IRCs and the performance of the IRC Supplier, ensuring effective delivery of contracted services. This is achieved by regularly walking throughout the IRC, interacting with IRC supplier staff and the detained residents.
You will be working in a custodial environment where some of these persons will have complex behaviours and needs. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of all detained adults.
Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):- Monitoring contractual compliance and providing regular performance summaries and feedback to the Home Office Compliance Manager.
- Being available for an out-of-hours on-call service for Detention Operations, operated on a rota basis within the team.
- Assisting the Operations and Compliance Manager with the production of monthly reports that provide essential data and statistics relating to the IRC.
- Ensuring residents within the centre are provided with an effective service in line with the Detention Services Performance Standards and Framework.
- Monitoring the IRC supplier's compliance with the contract, ensuring the site is operated in a safe and secure manner in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Providing high-quality thematic reviews of contract delivery and dip-sample reports across a range of areas, enabling the requisite assurance of contract delivery and adherence to policy.
You may be required to undertake the same or a similar role within a different team or teams, where possible at your base location or within reasonable travel distance, depending on business priorities. With appropriate training and support, this will provide opportunities to broaden your experience and skill set.
Working PatternDue to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of
80% of their working time in an office.
Shift WorkingSuccessful candidates will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.
TrainingYou will receive training and support to do the job. Training takes place the job with a mentor who supports you until you are fully confident in the role. TravelOccasional mandatory travel which will require overnight stays. Typically less than once a month.

- Ability to interpret and apply policy, guidance and procedures when reviewing work, identifying issues and ensuring compliance with required standards.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, using sound judgement, problem-solving skills and resilience to respond to changing priorities and operational pressures.
Desirable Criteria- Understanding of the Immigration processes.
- Experience of contract monitoring/audit and assurance.
LicencesDue to the nature of the work and the geographical location, driving is an essential requirement for this role. You will be required to drive on official business and must hold a full, valid UK driving licence (manual or automatic).
As the site is not accessible by public transport, you must have reliable means of travel to ensure you can attend work as required, including early mornings and late evenings.

2. Sift - from
9th September 2026The sift will be held on the Personal Statement and the Behaviour - Managing a Quality Service, as listed in the advert.
Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Personal Statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of all the remaining elements submitted (Lead Behaviour - Managing a Quality Service). Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the initial sift will not have their remaining submitted elements scored and will only receive a sift score for that assessed at the initial sift.
3. Interview -
from 30th September 2026If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviours (as listed in the job advert) and strength based questions. All Behaviours listed in the selection process will be scored at the interview.
