Grade B - £39,390 - £47,121 per annum (National Framework) or £44,792 - £52,523 per annum (London Framework – if you are London office based or homebased and live within the boundary of the M25) – There is also an additional homeworking allowance of £553 per annum for those working from home

Contracted Hours: Full time 37 hours per week however compressed and/or part-time hours may be considered.

The role of the Senior Visualisation Specialist at the CQC champions data visualisation best practice, helping to define and guide the organisation in how to use visualisation methods for data-driven insights and to tell impactful data stories.  

Collaborating with other visualisation and data analytics experts, the role contributes to the creation of a repository of reusable visualisations and UI elements for reporting, ensuring that visualisation principles are established and maintained across the CQC estate of reports, insight and publications.

What you will bring…

You will have an excellent understanding of data communication, visualisation techniques and best practice for data design.  As a Senior Visualisation Specialist, you will have the opportunity to lead on the development of internal skills and create high quality visualisation and reporting within CQC. You will have experience leading on the development of complex visualisations and custom components, helping to deliver innovative and engaging content in collaboration with experts in analysis. 

Accountabilities:

Lead on the development of internal skills and capability for the creation of high-quality visualisation and reporting within CQC. 
Ensure organisational standards for reporting and visualisation are understood and adopted across D&I and the wider organisation. 
Support in defining and understanding data visualisation and reporting requirements, ensuring they are unambiguous and understood. 
Help select and design visualisations that successfully communicate complex data and insights. 
Develop complex visualisations or custom components to meet insight needs. 
Drive a culture of reusable visualisation components. 
Coach and train colleagues in visualisation design and implementation. 
Identify new techniques and tools to advance CQC’s approach to data visualisation and reporting. 
Design and undertake appropriate quality control and assurance for delivery of output. 
Provide direction and guidance to peers and junior colleagues, including line management and development of teams, where required. 
Promote a strong data culture across CQC in line with the organisational data strategy. 
Role model inclusive behaviours in everyday interactions. 
Promote a culture of respect and fairness and understand personal responsibilities around delivering against CQC diversity and inclusion strategy. 
Demonstrate competence and support others to achieve behavioural excellence through our Success Profiles (Grade B) ensuring yourself and those you work with are the best that they can be. 
Role model and support others to instil our values into everything that we do.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience. 
Excellent understanding of data communication, visualisation techniques and best practice for data design. 
Expert knowledge of BI tools and data visualisation libraries and associated coding languages. 
Able to balance the principles of great visual design with the constraints of available tooling. 
Experience defining templates and standards for data visualisation. 
Able to interact with technical and non-technical audiences to successfully understand and articulate their needs 
Strong decision-making skills and capability to make sound judgement with limited supervision.  
Experience in reconciling conflicting views and articulating coherent rationales for action. 
Ability to identify problems and lead the delivery of solutions and preventative measures, escalating where appropriate. 
Proven ability to understand stakeholder needs, manage stakeholder expectations and influence at all levels on the use of data and insight. 
Proven ability to tailor the communication of insight in the most appropriate and compelling way for the audience, including through storytelling and visualisation. 

Desirable Skills and Experience: 

Knowledge and understanding of the health and care sectors. 
Good understanding of the principles of user interaction, experience design and good visual practice. 
Experience delivering training on use of BI tools. 
Experience using Microsoft Power BI for reporting and visualisation. 
Experience using JavaScript libraries such as D3, Vega, jQuery for visualisation.
