An analytical role that combines Catastrophe Modelling and Pricing for our new and growing US Flood Line of Business (within Property Binders).
US Flood was a new product line in 2015, and since that time has grown to $100m GWP through 'offering profitable and innovative market leading flood solutions, underpinned by market changing technology and a pioneering mind-set'. The Hiscox team has been awarded a Lloyd's Innovation Award and Insurance Insider Innovation Award for their product, FloodPlus.
Exposure Management, Cat Modelling and Pricing have been incorporated into real-time analytics and decision-making through our API-driven FloodPlus product. The role provides the opportunity for an experienced Cat Modeller to make a commercial impact, and shape smarter data, modelling & analytics processes.
What you'll be doing
Portfolio Rollup - Ownership of the exposure data and modelling processes
Reporting and Presentation of cat and pricing data
Working closely with Underwriters to price new opportunities, provide existing portfolio insight and optimisation
Pricing Development - evolving pricing algorithms and resolving pricing queries
FloodPlus Development - working with IT to evolve web APIs, deployment pipelines and integration testing
Flood Research - working closely with Cat Research to develop our understanding of various flood models, and incorporating Hiscox View of Risk into our modelling and pricing processes
Person Specification: Our must haves
Ideally 2 years Cat Modelling/Portfolio rollup experience - in at least one of RMS/AIR
One of R, Python or C# (Foundation-level or higher)
Data driven, attention to detail and a highly technical background (numerate degree-level minimum)
Inquisitive, analytical mind-set - a passion for pulling things apart and understanding both how they work and how they get used
Enthusiastic and willing to deliver as we continue to shape and define our analytical capabilities, with a strong commercial focus

Flood Modelling/Research Background
Experience in Insurance Pricing/Actuarial
Experience with Web API/ Deployment Pipelines
Experience with Data Science Tools/Techniques
