Job description
The newly established Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton is seeking to appoint an Associate Dean for a newly formed Joint Educational Institute with Shanxi Medical University in China, as part of a growing TNE partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic to be an influential figure in the establishment and growth of a key strategic asset to the University. This is a strategic leadership role that will support the Faculty to deliver against the University's 2035 strategy of delivering world leading education, that is informed by research, and to realise our vision of creating opportunity, transforming lives, and delivering a more inclusive, productive and sustainable society. The Faculty specifically aspires to address significant health and societal challenges, with an aim to maximise activity and societal participation.
The Associate Dean will oversee the University's operations across dual award programmes, and will support Shanxi Medical University leadership with the provision of strategic direction to the Joint Educational Institute. In the longer term there is an expectation to both grow the joint educational and research portfolio between the two institutions.
You will be based at one of our campuses in the UK (Wolverhampton or Walsall campus) and will be required to make regular journeys to China, totalling a minimum of 90 days per year. As well as strategic leadership of the Joint Educational Institute, you will be responsible for leading the four programmes we offer in partnership, fulfilling the link tutor role, and bearing responsibility for student pastoral care, as well as contributing to teaching activities on one or more of our programmes. You will have a strong background in academic leadership, appropriate expertise within a relevant educational programme, a track record of effective working with international partners to deliver high-quality TNE programmes, and a strong awareness of the context of delivering HE programmes and health related research in line with Ministry of Education requirements.
The University of Wolverhampton is a civic University with a proud history of widening access and delivering excellence in teaching, research, and business engagement. We have strong educational and research links with our local NHS partners, civic bodies, and public heath teams in Wolverhampton and Walsall. Our educational programmes and CPD portfolio support the local health economy and make a transformative impact through collaboration and appropriate public engagement. This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on education, research and knowledge exchange at a university that values innovation, inclusivity, and excellence. We would expect that this ethos is replicated within the Joint Educational Institute. The University operates an employee assistance and benefit scheme and you will be supported to realise your potential with support for ongoing training and education.
