Job summary

The Anti-Coagulation Service is currently seeking to recruit 1.0 WTE practitioner. This post is suitable for a registered nurse who has experience in the management of anticoagulation treatment.The applicant must be committed to providing a patient centred service. Experience of autonomous working is essential and applicants with experience in anticoagulation are sought. Essential skills include a good level of accuracy, literacy, and communication. We also expect the applicant to be compassionate and caring. The applicant must be a good team player and have a keen eye for detail. You will need to have great communication skills, be well organised and have the ability to remain calm and deal with a busy (but rewarding) workplace.

The anticoagulation department delivers a service to patients at all sites across Barts Health and supports primary care practitioners in all regions running their anticoagulation clinics. We have a home visit service operating out of the Whipps Cross and Royal London sites. With the drive being to ensure AF patients are anticoagulated effectively, safely and in a timely way at a suitable location.VTE patients are monitored and supported carefully especially given the large increase in thrombosis following COVID infection. The successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team and play an active role in providing exceptional care to our patients. A flexible approach to working will be required.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable anticoagulation practitioner to join our anticoagulation and thrombosis service at Barts Health NHS Trust. We offer this opportunity to gain a specialist interest in the anticoagulant management of atrial fibrillation, venous, arterial and cardiac thrombosis within a supportive multidisciplinary team that comprises consultant haematologists, nurses, pharmacists, biomedical scientists, phlebotomists and clinical administrators. The practitioner would:- engage in Practitioner and Consultant-led clinics including warfarin dosing- educate and counsel patients in all aspects of all anticoagulants, including monitoring, side effects, drug interactions, peri-operative bridging, travel, pregnancy and hormonal therapy- provide an expert resource for healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care- engage in on-the-job and self-directed training in this field with a view to providing optimal quality care and disseminating best practice locally- contribute to departmental clinical research and audit- have a role in shaping the team and the service through our advanced quality improvement programme that is shared with anticoagulation and thrombosis services across the Barts Health network

Cross-site working at Barts Health within the anticoagulation and thrombosis network is required as part of the role. The team are open and encouraging of hybrid working on-site and from home.
