THRIVE Network at Hachette UK

THRIVE works to build cultural awareness, bring people together and champion our Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Ethnically Diverse colleagues and writers. In recent years, the network has been focussed on community building, fostering solidarity, outreach and platforming incredible authors of colour.

In 2024, THRIVE collaborated with the Muslim Employee Network for an in-conversation event with Sabaa Tahir, with the Wellbeing network to host a financial wellbeing workshop with the authors of Financial Joy and supported the East and Southeast Asian Publishing Network with their fundraiser summer party and inaugural Lit Fest at Foyles and the Southbank Centre.

They partnered up with Eleanor Lloyd Productions to organise a trip to watch SHIFTERS, also collaborating with them on a two-week pop-up shop which spotlighted incredible books published by Hachette. In celebration of Black History Month, they organised an author-led panel centred on Black joy as well as a charity bake sale with the money raised going to charities, Black Minds Matter and BLAM. And celebrating South Asian Heritage Month, they did a book drop around Hachette offices – showcasing some of the wonderful books written by South Asian authors from across the company.

THRIVE are also passionate about helping to demystify publishing to help improve representation and retention across the industry. As such, they have hosted workshops and panel discussions spotlighting staff of colour giving them an opportunity share their expertise, experiences and advice on working in the industry. Most recently, they hosted a CV and cover letter workshop in collaboration with Good Nugget and an in-conversation with panel event ‘Beyond the Page’, in collaboration with Thawra Mag.

Hachette’s Pride and Thrive Employee Networks collaborated on a stand at UK Black Pride at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in August 2022 selling books and raising funds to be donated to art charity Wise Thoughts and Manchester based African Rainbow Family, both of which support queer people of colour. Hachette UK matched the donation.
