Gender Equity Staff Network at West Yorkshire Combined Authority

Women of West Yorkshire 2023

Back by popular demand we are also hosting an all-day, free event which invites you to explore gender equality through thought-provoking discussions, inspiring talks and incredible performances.

You might remember at last year’s event we were joined by some incredible speakers including; Joeli Brearley, Heba Bevan and Noushin Aslam Raja as we discussed how to #BreaktheBias.

This year’s event will be themed around #EmbraceEquity and will cover a range of topics from learning how to build confidence to a masterclass on menopause.

We will be bringing together a wide-range of speakers who will be sharing their experiences, knowledge and advice to generate discussion, empower and to bring about positive change.

Women of West Yorkshire 2023

  • The Gender Equality Group was established in late 2020. The group meets regularly to shine a spotlight on gender inequality and help the organisation to address these inequalities. It is a problem-solving, action-oriented group.
  • We are very pleased with some of our achievements since the group was established.
  • Supporting those with increased childcare, home schooling and other caring responsibilities.
  • With lockdown, school bubbles bursting and increased pressures to juggle work and caring responsibilities, the gender equality group quickly took action to create a caregivers survey to identify the key issues and propose solutions.  Temporary adjustments were made to our flexible working arrangements that complement the range of existing flexibilities as we deal with continuing unprecedented and complex situations.

Staff network groups are critical for EDI at the Combined Authority, in providing nurturing spaces for colleagues, often with a shared heritage, experience (indirect or direct) or characteristic that come together to support each other. As well as supporting the organisation and the EDI activities in which they work, staff network groups can be effective mobilisers to support and empower colleagues, raise awareness, assess, inform decisions and/or problem solving, and enable innovative approaches to strengthen EDI efforts at the Combined Authority.
