It is important that both practical experience and academic knowledge are combined to ensure skills are developed to a high standard. We are continuing to look at ways to attract, engage, support and retain apprentices. All our schemes provide opportunities for you to develop skills, gain valuable experience and achieve a recognised qualification.
DIO Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship Scheme
The DIO Apprenticeship Academy offers a wide range of apprenticeships that combine practical work and training to gain valuable experience. Through our apprenticeships you will gain professional knowledge, a recognised qualification and the wider skills required to upskill you and pave the way for your future career.
Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship Quantity Surveying & Construction Pathway
Quantity Surveyors are highly trained professionals offering expert advice on construction costs. They are essential for life cycle costing, cost planning, procurement and tendering, contract administration and commercial management. The DIO employs approximately 50 Quantity Surveyors in the UK and abroad. They work on a range of fascinating multi-million pound projects covering a range of exciting programmes in the UK & overseas.
On this 63-month Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship scheme, youll be immersed in the DIO from day one. Fast paced and rewarding, this Apprenticeship will allow you to make your mark on a global organisation, while building connections with talented people across our business.
From the beginning, youll be given a mentor to provide useful tips and guidance on your work and career whenever you need it. You will also be given a full induction on how the DIO functions as a business, become an integral part of our Apprenticeship Academy, and of course, discover how your role plays a crucial part in driving a culture and community of advancement and continuous improvement.
We will link you up with other Apprentices who you can meet and connect with, give you the opportunity to participate in apprenticeship events and get involved with our many networks such as Race, Gender, LBGT+, Faith and Mental Health to really give you that all-round feeling of the culture in our business.
Person specification
During your time in the Apprenticeship Academy, you will:
During your Apprenticeship, well support your technical development through a range of on-the-job experiences, putting what youre learning in the classroom into practice in your day job. Well also support your professional development through a combination of training courses, mentoring and networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout your Apprenticeship from your Mentor and Line Manager in DIO, as well as your Tutor and Coaches from the training provider.
Qualifications
You must have, by January 2026, the following Qualifications/Essential Criteria:
Five full GCSEs at A*-C or grades 4-9 (or equivalent) to include English Language and Mathematics.
and;
96 UCAS tariff points
or;
an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical* through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained, or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained
or;
successfully completed the UCEM BSc Access module
Your application must evidence the above essential criteria, including subjects and grades. If your application does not evidence this essential criteria, your application will be rejected.
Please note that students are required to be 18 years or over at the start of their Apprenticeship.
The successful applicant for this post will be required to and need to be willing to undertake a higher level of clearance, Developed Vetting (DV Clearance).

Above is an image from the DIO Apprenticeship Awards 2022, some of our apprentices from the last three years collected certificates to mark the successful completion of their studies. The awards were presented by DIO Apprenticeship Champion Warren Webster and Head of People and Capability Jo Peel.
The attendees were then treated to a tour of HMNB Portsmouth and even a visit to HMS Prince of Wales, one of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers! They were shown the bridge, flight island, hangar and flight deck - a welcome reminder of the people we serve and the military capability we enable.
We are paving the way to meeting our strategic objectives and delivering high quality services to our customers. Through apprenticeships we will grow our own talent, fill skills gaps and provide support with filling those difficult to recruit roles.
