Apprenticeships at DIO

Defence is changing: the work that people do is changing, the challenges we face are changing, and the skills we need to deliver Defence are changing too. We have been thinking about what training opportunities there are for you and believe that apprenticeships represent a fantastic opportunity to invest in our future. We are focused on ensuring individuals gain the most from their apprenticeships. It is important that both practical experience and academic knowledge are combined to ensure skills are developed to a high standard. We are continuing to look at ways to attract, engage, support and retain apprentices. All our schemes provide opportunities for you to develop skills, gain valuable experience and achieve a recognised qualification.

Above is an image from the DIO Apprenticeship Awards 2022, some of our apprentices from the last three years collected certificates to mark the successful completion of their studies. The awards were presented by DIO Apprenticeship Champion Warren Webster and Head of People and Capability Jo Peel.

The attendees were then treated to a tour of HMNB Portsmouth and even a visit to HMS Prince of Wales, one of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers! They were shown the bridge, flight island, hangar and flight deck - a welcome reminder of the people we serve and the military capability we enable.

We are paving the way to meeting our strategic objectives and delivering high quality services to our customers. Through apprenticeships we will grow our own talent, fill skills gaps and provide support with filling those difficult to recruit roles.
