Wellbeing

At Sage, we believe that an organisation's success is intrinsically linked to the wellbeing of its people. We've built a culture that not only supports colleagues in their careers but also empowers them to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Rachel Thompson, our Senior Wellbeing Manager

Our commitment to this is reflected in the strong support networks and flexible resources we offer, helping colleagues here at Sage navigate the demands of modern life while staying grounded and resilient.

Rachel Thompson, our Senior Wellbeing Manager, shares her personal experience managing her own wellbeing, and highlights our Healthy Mind Coaching community—one of the key ways we empower colleagues to maintain their wellbeing and achieve a healthy work-life balance.

Healthy Minds: A Community of Support

One of our flagship initiatives is the Healthy Mind Coach (HMC) programme. This global, volunteer-based initiative is a testament to our belief in peer-to-peer support.

Rachel is the global leader behind this program and says she feels “privileged to have been part of the Healthy Mind Coaches community for a number of years.” She talks about how proud she is of the programme and how much it’s grown from being UK focused to now having coaches in more than 10 countries. “It’s a fantastic network of colleagues who are embedded in and spread across multiple areas of the business,” she says. “We've had colleagues from all levels of the business go through the programme, from apprentices to senior leaders who are trained to listen and guide others toward helpful resources. I think this really shows the wide spectrum of support and involvement from our colleagues.”

Healthy Mind Coaches are not counsellors or therapists. Instead, they provide a safe, confidential space for people to talk openly, creating a powerful network of support across the business. “Being a part of this programme is a transformative experience for the coaches themselves, helping them develop confidence in sensitive conversations and strengthen their leadership skills.” Rachel remarks.

The programme also provides a strong support structure for coaches, with ongoing training and development opportunities. “While a single conversation may not change the world, it absolutely can change a single person’s world, and that’s the driving force behind this programme.” Rachel notes.

The Power of Routine: Finding Your Balance

Beyond formal programmes, we also recognise the importance of personal strategies for wellbeing. Rachel shares that she’s finding balance by embracing the power of routine and letting go of the need for perfection.

As a parent of three, she’s discovered that having a plan for her week helps her stay ahead and feel in control. “On weeks where I haven’t planned well, I feel like I’m just trying to keep my head above water,” she says. Her routine is intentional and practical, from preparing her children's clothes to carving out time for exercise. These small actions help reduce stress and build resilience.

However, she's also learned to be flexible. When "curveballs" happen, she leans on mindfulness and small resets, like taking a few deep breaths or watching a light-hearted show to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Perhaps her biggest lesson has been learning to let go of perfection. “I became comfortable with delivering 80%; because my 80% might be someone else’s 110%,” she explains. This shift in mindset not only improved her wellbeing but also made her more effective at work by allowing her to focus on what truly matters.
