The role of the arts in supporting society and the economy in Northern Ireland.

The arts sector has a far-reaching impact on our lives. Not only does it support jobs and contribute to the economy, but it also plays a vital role in our health and wellbeing. But how can we robustly hashtag#measure and demonstrate the full impact of the arts? We were thrilled to partner with TFCC to help answer this question for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI).

We were asked to estimate the social value and economic impact generated by ACNI’s funded organisations. We also developed a framework to help arts organisations across Northern Ireland ask the right questions to strengthen their evidence base and better demonstrate their social value in future. 🎭

Our analysis highlighted the contribution of ACNI’s investment portfolio to Northern Ireland’s GDP and the many full-time jobs it supports. The subset of organisations we engaged with were also found to generate strong social value through innovative programming, with analysis showing they deliver greater impact for each £1 spent.
