Meet Efua, Project Surveyor at Skanska

Efua Derby is one of our project surveyors, and she has been working in the construction industry for five years. She currently works with us at Mindenhurst in Surrey, on a project we are delivering for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
A big part of her day-to-day role is making sure the contract and financial parts of the project are on track and heading in the right direction. We asked her why she chose the construction industry.
Efua Derby
“When I was little, my dad worked in the industry as a subcontractor, and I used to help the quantity surveyors (QS) whenever they had to tender for jobs. I would check costs to ensure they had been correctly added up, which I really enjoyed. I began reading through tender documents and liked the attention to detail this needed, so after I started my own family I decided to pursue a career in the industry as a QS. And here I am now!
The construction industry has an abundance of job opportunities to offer people. I would definitely recommend researching the variety of roles the industry offers. You'd be amazed at what you will discover."
