Embracing Lifelong Learning: My Journey with the MOD and an Apprenticeship at 55
Category: Generation (Age Friendly), Training & Development
I joined the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in 2016 and have had the privilege of working in several roles over the years. Each position has provided unique challenges and learning opportunities, allowing me to develop a broad skill set and a deep understanding of the organisation.

In 2023, I became part of the Army Inclusion team. This role has been particularly rewarding, as it has encouraged me to grow both personally and professionally. The team is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported, and I have been inspired by the commitment and passion of my colleagues.
At the age of 55, I embarked on an apprenticeship, a journey that has been both exciting and fulfilling. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been given this opportunity at my age, which speaks volumes about the organisation's dedication to lifelong learning. This experience has reinforced my belief that learning and development are continuous processes, and it has been a positive step towards greater inclusion within the MOD.
I hope my journey demonstrates that apprenticeships are not just for the younger generation but are valuable opportunities for people of all ages. By embracing lifelong learning, we can all continue to grow and contribute meaningfully to our organisations and communities.
