In the UK, 1 in 2 people born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime [Cancer Research UK]. Cancer impacts one third of the UK working population. It is increasingly a factor recognised across the Army and the MOD, but we need collectively to do more to support our people, educate leaders and inform policy. The newly set up Defence Cancer Support Network (DCSN) has some excellent resources, in particular, the Buddy system which can pair up DCSN members with MoD personnel who may have a cancer diagnosis or who might be a carer, colleague or line manager for someone affected by cancer.
