Apprenticeships

The New Year is here, and what better time to reflect on personal development and explore how MOD Apprenticeships can enhance “Skills for Life”?

National Apprenticeship Week 9-15 February 2026

As one civil servant shared:

“I’m about to complete my Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA), which has been a fantastic opportunity. The flexibility, supportive line management, and the chance to make a meaningful difference make this role truly rewarding.”

This powerful insight reflects exactly what National Apprenticeship Week is all about.

The 19th annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) takes place across England from 9–13 February 2026, and across Defence we will be marking the occasion by celebrating apprenticeships, showcasing the great programmes available, and highlighting the many ways you can get involved.

Building Skills for Life

This year continues the national theme of “Skills for Life”, focusing on how apprenticeships help individuals gain the knowledge and capabilities needed for a rewarding career, while supporting organisations to develop a talented, future‑ready workforce.

Within Defence, apprenticeships play a vital role in building capability and aligning with wider ambitions for a modern, agile workforce. With the establishment of Skills England, aimed at closing skills gaps and preparing the nation for the future, apprenticeships offer a clear, supported route for progression and career development across MOD.

National Apprenticeship Week 2026: What’s Planned?

Throughout NAW, Defence will be highlighting the experiences of more than 24,000 civilian and military apprentices, sharing success stories and showcasing the depth of talent across Defence. A wide‑ranging programme of events will run throughout the week.

As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we are proud to recognise the valuable contribution apprentices make across Defence and the wider Civil Service. Apprenticeships remain a key part of how we invest in people, build future‑ready skills, and continue to grow a talented and capable workforce.
