Apprenticeship Opportunities at the Ministry of Defence - Ramji, Data Analyst

Hi I’m Ramji and I work as a Data Analyst for the Ministry of Defence. When I first joined I was offered the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship which was a really important step in helping me develop my existing skills but also to start learning new things and gain exposure to the things I was going to be doing as part of my role.

The apprenticeship introduction was very welcoming and supportive, and you’re linked with an online coach who acts as your point of contact for advice. You’re never alone in completing your apprenticeship. You’ll work with other apprentices from different organisations in virtual classrooms where you can share ideas and learn from an expert. My team and line managers were also fully supportive of the journey, most of them having done apprenticeships themselves, and understood that finding the balance between work and study can be tricky. You’ll have 20% of your working week where you can work on your apprenticeship offline, away from your usual day to day work and everyone was really supportive and respectful of this.

I have now successfully completed my apprenticeship and received a promotion off the back of this. The opportunity to learn and work at the same time was a no-brainer for me, it just opens so many doors for developing skills that are very relevant today. The MOD has lots of great apprenticeship opportunities and I’d encourage anyone considering it to just go for it!
