Trading the Recording Studio for the Tech Stack

Before joining Sage, Joy spent over a decade as the Southeast Regional Promotion Director at Interscope Records. Her days were spent connecting with high-level executives and promoting world-class artists. However, after a layoff, Joy sought a new challenge: a career that aligned with her marketing expertise but offered a fresh path for professional growth.

Despite having no experience in tech sales, Joy recognised that her skills in persuasion and relationship-building were transferable. She took a leap, applied for a role at Sage, and hasn't looked back since.

How does someone go from music promotion to exceeding BDR (Business Development Representative) targets, and then now thriving as an Account Executive in just a matter of months? Joy attributes her rapid success to a combination of internal drive and Sage’s robust support system:

• The Sales Academy: Joy calls the Academy a "pivotal" resource. It provided her with the tech stack knowledge and strategic "why you, why now" frameworks needed to communicate value to finance leaders.
• The Power of Connection: At a Sage Future event, Joy was inspired by the CFO of the LPGA, who spoke about regaining trust in data. Joy "shamelessly borrowed" that insight, using it to close meetings with prospective clients.
• Focus and Attitude: Joy’s secret is simple: showing up with intention. "I come into the office with intention, set daily goals, and get after it every single day," she says.
