Celebrating Ramadan Across the Publishing Industry: A Cross-Publisher Iftar Gathering
Last week, over 60 colleagues from across the UK publishing industry came together to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. Hosted by the Muslim Employee Network at Hachette UK, this annual Iftar brought together representatives from Penguin Random House UK, Bonnier Books UK, Pan Macmillan, HarperCollins Publishers UK, and other publishers, marking the network’s fifth consecutive cross-industry celebration.

This annual event has become a cornerstone of the network’s mission to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for Muslim professionals and allies within publishing. It also plays an important role in supporting Hachette UK’s wider Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative, Changing The Story, which aims to drive meaningful and lasting change across the sector.
The evening featured a shared Iftar meal, catered by a Muslim-owned business, which provided guests with a delicious and authentic experience. In addition to the meal, attendees were gifted a curated selection of books by Muslim authors, all published by Hachette UK. These gifts were not only thoughtful tokens of appreciation but also a celebration of the rich and diverse voices within the Muslim community.

Events like this are about more than just sharing food—they are powerful opportunities to build bridges, deepen understanding, and foster a true sense of belonging. By creating spaces where people of all faiths and backgrounds can come together in celebration and reflection, the Muslim Employee Network is helping to shape a publishing industry that is more inclusive, representative, and compassionate.
We are incredibly grateful to the network for their continued leadership and dedication in hosting such a meaningful and joyful event. Celebrations like these are a vital part of how we build stronger, more connected workplaces—and how we continue to change the story, together.
