HUK's Accessibility Network Marks Disability History Month

It’s currently Disability History Month, an annual event that aims to raise awareness about disabled people’s fight for equality and human rights.

This year, the theme of the month is ‘Disability Livelihood and Employment’, and our incredible Accessibility Network took the opportunity to amplify the voices of disabled colleagues from across Hachette UK by sharing what they wish their non-disabled colleagues knew.

Our people are the heart of our business, and we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity. We want everyone to feel fully accepted, comfortable and free to express themselves within the workplace. Our Accessibility Network is a vital part of this commitment, and we’re so grateful for the insight they share and the work they do to improve the accessibility of publishing for anyone who has a disability, is neurodiverse or has a health condition.

Last year, Hachette UK launched an Accessibility Policy, which sets out a framework to support and empower its colleagues.

Created in line with Hachette UK’s ‘Changing the Story’ diversity and inclusion initiative, the policy outlines best practice for recruiting disabled candidates sharing information about a disability, and internal and external support available to staff.  A managers’ guidance document and a disability etiquette and external resources information sheet have also been created alongside the policy.
