dh Proud – dunnhumby launch of LGBTQ+ network, dhProud. This is a particularly relevant milestone as 2019 marks 50 years since the Stonewall riots, which many consider to be the birthplace of the gay rights movement. The world has come a long way since then, but there’s still a long way to go with reports of an increase in rates of homophobia and transphobia. Stonewall Research has revealed that in the last year 18% of people have experienced discrimination in the workplace, and 35% of people have hidden or disguised their sexual orientation at work because they were afraid of discrimination. We know people are more productive, successful, and happier in the workplace when they can be their authentic selves so it’s an important issue for dunnhumby.
2019 is a significant year for dunnhumby – As well as celebrating our 30th birthday, we established the UK&I dh Proud network earlier this year and we were excited to host our first event with some brilliant guest speakers on the 04 July, as well as joining the Pride in London Parade this weekend, for the first time ever! We’re really looking forward to seeing how dh Proud will grow as we aim to roll it out globally across all our regions and expand the reach of this fantastic network.
Visibility and awareness is the core strategy for dh Proud this year, so it’s important dunnhumby openly share our support for the LGBTQ+ community. It may only be a small change to our logo, but the small things really do make a difference – it sends a significant message that dunnhumby provides an inclusive, safe and supportive environment.
