A Day in the Life of a HR Assistant in the Maritime and Coastguard Agency
The Central HR Services team is accountable for the effective, efficient and business focused delivery of HR services to senior leaders, managers and staff within the MCA. We do this by leading the relationship with the expert HR services that support the MCA, including Pay & Reward, Organisational Management, Central HR Services and Wellbeing & Inclusion. MCA HR is located at the MCA Headquarters at Spring Place, Southampton.
The HR Assistant role supports the HR Advisor to provide an effective administration and business support service to HR and the wider business.
The HR Assistant’s responsibilities include:
Provide general administration support
Maintain governance standards including management of registered files and appropriate storage and security of HR information
Assist with the administration of professional skills training
Work in partnership with HR colleagues to provide administrative support on a range of HR related projects including performance management and resourcing
Organise meetings and take minutes
Provide support for MCA change programmes in relation to HR processes
Deal with general queries from both Internal and External customers on the telephone, email and in person
Manage incoming and outgoing post
The role needs a person who:
Is a good team player
Is accurate and precise in their work
Is confident using email, telephone and Internet
Can effectively liaise with colleagues at all levels
Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
Discretion is essential as post-holder will have access to sensitive material.
The HR Assistant must be interested in people, be able to provide good customer service and attention to detail.
This position of HR Assistant allows a great opportunity to gain experience in a diverse range of tasks, gain HR knowledge, have further opportunities for learning and development, join a proactive dynamic team and liaise with individuals across all of the Agency and wider Civil Service.
