How long have you been a Civil Servant?

I’ve been a Civil Servant for almost seven years.

What attracted you to a career in the Civil Service?

The flexibility was a big draw. I originally started full-time, but the Civil Service has supported me in reducing my hours to better manage my work-life balance with my children and family. I was also attracted by the wide range of opportunities for progression, job security, and the excellent pension and benefits.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love the variety, working with different people, developing new skills, and gaining knowledge about the Army. I’m about to complete my Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA), which has been a fantastic opportunity. The flexibility, supportive line management, and the chance to make a meaningful difference make this role truly rewarding.

Advice for parents considering a career in the MoD

Explore your options and reach out to line managers for guidance. There are so many career paths to consider, so don’t let the lengthy application process or security checks put you off, they’re worth it! If you’re looking for a career that offers purpose, flexibility, and endless opportunities to grow, the Civil Service could be the perfect fit for you.
