A true sense of belonging, a remarkable career at the MOD

Hi, I’m Tracey and I joined the MOD direct from school in 1979 and I am proud to have a very long Civil Service record. I have seen many changes during that time, and I have had first-hand experience of how the MOD has grown its change management skills and embedded a more coherent and positive change culture. There is still plenty of room for continuous development and improvement, but I am a champion of the more inclusive, focussed, and whole force, Army and Civil Servant, approach that is now evolving.

In my 43 years, I have been fortunate to have worked in many different parts of the MOD. I have travelled quite extensively overseas and have gained experience in a wide range of business areas. As a generalist I have enjoyed a varied career and grown a skill set that allows me to turn my hand to most things. I have benefitted from the MOD’s extensive training and development programme, undertaking CIMA, Project Management and I am now an HR Professional with my CIPD, HR qualification. When my children were younger, I was supported to participate as a school governor, a Brownie Guide Leader, and a voluntary member of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity. All of which were extremely rewarding and made possible by the use of the MOD’s allocation of volunteering days to support staff development.

Now in the twilight of my career I look back on a truly remarkable experience, where I have met many wonderful people and have genuinely felt valued and appreciated for my contribution.  I have a huge sense of pride and loyalty to the Civil Service, MOD and the Service Personnel I have been fortunate to support. Would I do it again – yes of course I would!!
