Camden Council receive Community Partnership Award

Mayor of Camden Councillor Nadia Shah proudly picked up the inaugural Lord’s Taverners Community Partnership Award on behalf of Camden Council.

Camden Council has worked in partnership with the Lord’s Taverners to bring after-school cricket sessions to Swiss Cottage School, whose students have complex learning difficulties, emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties.

The Mayor said: “This summer’s Paralympics has shown that disability need not be a barrier for people to excel in their chosen field. This programme has helped our young people to develop their physical fitness, confidence, motivation, self-esteem and communication skills though the wonderful game of cricket.

“It’s through participating in programmes like this that we’re making Camden a place where everyone has the chance to succeed and where no-one gets left behind.”

The partnership was instigated by former Mayor Councillor Larraine Revah, who now is the Council’s Cabinet Member for Equalities and Employment.

Cllr Revah said: “I know from personal experience the difference that inclusive community activities can make to the lives of disabled young people which is why I sought to establish this partnership during my Mayoral year. I look forward to seeing Camden’s Cricket Team competing in 2017.”

The awards ceremony was held at the Ashes Suite at the famous Oval cricket ground on Tuesday, 8 November 2016.

The Lord’s Taverners Disability Cricket Championships (LTDCC) has been running since 2012 and currently covers 23 of the 32 London Boroughs. To date the programme has engaged nearly 2,000 young disabled people across London.
