Camden Council Healthy Minds Programme

A new project aimed at easing the transition to parenthood, funded by the Camden Healthy Minds programme, gets underway this week.

The 'Preparation for Parenthood' course will be available at all of Camden’s children’s centres and is facilitated by family support workers, midwives and health visitors. Over five weeks it aims to help families successfully make the transition to parenthood, recognising that becoming a parent is exciting but also a challenging time.

Marking World Mental Health Day (Monday 10th October ), Leader of the Council, Cllr Sarah Hayward, and Cabinet Member for Children, Cllr Angela Mason CBE, today visited Regent's Park Children's Centre.  The pair spoke to staff and families, hearing details about the range of services on offer at the centre, including mental health support.

Monday 12th October, Cllr Georgia Gould, Cabinet member for Young People, Adults and Health, joined 16-24 year old at The Hive (on Finchley Road) for an interactive workshop and live debate about mental health.

Axis @ the Hive is a joint project, funded by Camden CCG and commissioned by Camden Council, to help bridge the gap between child and adult health and wellbeing services, particularly for young people who are currently not engaging with any services.

Managed by Catch22 in partnership with local specialist organisations, Axis operates from The Hive youth base, which was co-designed by young people.

Another event focussing on young people’s mental health took place on Wednesday (12^th) and was attended by Mayor, Nadia Shah.

‘Real Talk’ took place in the Council Chamber at Camden Town Hall and was hosted by Kidulthood and Adulthood actor, Femi Oyeniran, as well as TV and Radio presenter, Remel London.The free event, organised by Camden Council, brought together local young people, aged 14 to 21, to debate mental health issues

Mayor, Nadia Shah's chosen charity for her year in office is mental health charity, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.  Based in Camden, the charity is dedicated to transforming the current state of UK mental health care by improving the quality, effectiveness and accessibility of treatment. The charity has been developing and delivering pioneering mental health care for children and their families for over 60 years.

The charity works with the Mayor of Camden to raise awareness of their work, with funds raised by the Mayor ensuring that more vulnerable children and families across Camden get the support they deserve, providing them with the skills and resilience to build a better future.
