Celebrating Black History and Black Culture The Trinidad Way Gill Oakley (She/Her) Customer Services

"Black History Month is about bringing awareness of Black History and culture to those who have not been exposed to it."

"Being a first-generation Black British, I was brought up with the values my parents grew up with in Trinidad. Like them, I have a real sense of pride in the Trinidadian heritage and truly affiliate myself with it."

I would be remiss if I failed to appreciate the Greatest Show on Earth; Trinidad carnival music. Anyone who knows me knows that I do my annual "pilgrimage" to the mecca of all carnivals in February and I attend Notting Hill Carnival to get my local cultural “fix!”

"The Christmas tradition of baking ham, eating black cake, drinking ponche crème and listening to parang music goes without saying in my home."

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH!
