Lest We Forget: MOD Marks Armistice Day with Parade and Cenotaph Service

On Tuesday, 11 November, the Western Front Association hosted their annual Armistice Day parade and service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. The event served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives in service to their country.
The Ministry of Defence played a significant role in supporting the ceremony, providing ceremonial contributions to honour the occasion. The King’s Colour Squadron RAF supplied a Parade Warrant Officer and a Cenotaph Vigil Guard, while a Bugler from the Royal Marines Band Collingwood delivered a moving performance that resonated with all in attendance.
The Defence Secretary, John Healey, was invited by the Executive Committee of the Western Front Association to attend the ceremony as their guest. During the service, he laid a wreath on behalf of the Department, paying tribute to the fallen and reaffirming the MOD’s commitment to remembering their sacrifice.
The event was attended by both civilian and military colleagues from the MOD Main Building, with military personnel proudly donning their uniforms for the occasion. Staff were positioned directly opposite the Cenotaph, in front of the barriers lining the embankment side of Whitehall, giving them a prime view of the solemn proceedings.
The Armistice Day service is a time-honoured tradition, providing an opportunity for reflection and remembrance. It serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve in defence of our nation.
