The problem
Potential is equally spread across our country. But young people from disadvantaged backgrounds don’t start with the same chances and the inequality continues throughout childhood.

It’s not their fault and it isn’t fair.  That’s because our education system is failing disadvantaged children. Here's how:

• Poorer kids are 18 months behind when they take their GCSEs
• Statistic: the school achievement gap between rich and poor students hasn't narrowed in a century
• Almost a third of British children currently live in poverty
• Statistic: Children excluded from school are four times more likely to be from poorer backgrounds

The solution
Schools and teachers can make the biggest difference. But they need champions. And that’s why we’ve been providing lasting solutions to schools serving disadvantaged communities for nearly 20 years.
