How can you get involved?

We believe the world of business is suffering from a global female ‘role model’
shortage and that it is vital to motivate the next generation to embrace business
and carve out fulfilling lives. Women are currently underrepresented at all levels in
senior business positions.


Modern Muse is a not-for-profit social enterprise designed to inspire and engage the
next generation of female business leaders and entrepreneurs.

The Modern Muse online platform features successful women from all walks of life, who
work across business and society. Their stories will inspire, inform and motivate young
women and girls, introducing them to the wide range of career opportunities available as
they prepare for their futures.

The Modern Muse platform will:

• Provide students with an intimate view of the day-to-day responsibilities, career
paths and schooling of profiled Modern Muses

• Profile partnering corporate organisations that are able to offer work experience and
career opportunities

• Assist parents and schools to give valuable career guidance on diverse opportunities
across subjects, sectors and industries

According to the World Economic Forum, the gender pay gap stands at:

• It will take another 118 years - or until 2133 - until the global pay
gap between men and women is finally closed
• Women are only now earning the amount that men did in 2006
• A large contributing factor to the gender pay gap are the ‘low
income’ jobs women occupy


Statistics show that there is a particular lack of women working in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) roles.

Modern Muse is keen to reduce this gap. We want to identify and promote the
impacts of science and technology in everyday life, in order to open up job and
career ideas for young women. We want to show that women can, and do, ex cel in
varied careers across business, science, technology, engineering and maths.


Statistically speaking, by age 14 it is too late to influence a STEM career. We need
to get to girls earlier and build their Science Capital.

We want to help increase the social mobility of disadvantaged young people by
providing insight to the variety of career options, work experience, job placements,
internships and apprenticeships available to them.

We want our Muses to encourage and inspire young women and girls while they
are in school so that they can start to make informed decisions as they progress
into high school, university, or work experience. At the same time, we will facilitate
relationships, networks and sharing between corporate organisations and women in
a variety of careers.


Muses are women in the workplace, either working for an organisation or running
their own business, who are passionate about their work and want to inspire the
next generation. We are looking for women of all ages, social and educational
backgrounds, industries, sectors and job roles. Registered Muses will have their own
profile where they can showcase the work they do.

As a Muse, you will be able to:

develop mentorship and leadership

If you want to shape future talent and build strong foundations for your business, you
can get involved by becoming a corporate partner and encouraging female employees
to become Muses. Registered companies on the Modern Muse online platform
will have their own profile presenting the work they do, as well as available career
opportunities, work experience and shadowing placements.

By becoming a corporate partner you will:

within the workplace and contribute
to the business case for gender
balance and increased female
representation in senior positions

• Promote the breadth of career
opportunities and showcase
