Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for the position of a full time Ward Manager within the Children's Burns Ward at Broomfield Hospital.

St Andrew's Regional centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery is a world renowned service, promoting an excellent standard of care and professionalism within this speciality.

The duties involves maintaining a safe and healthy environment for staff and patients and ensuring a family friendly setting is maintained. Co-ordinating and being in charge of shift and staff, mentoring junior colleagues and students and clinical duties in the ward.

Empowering patients, provide and promote health education and advise on the prevention of ill health.

Main duties of the job

Provide excellent patient care to children and their families ensuring that it is evidence bases and compliant with best practice recommendations for children's hospital services.Provide clear feedback to team members in a way that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance, Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery.

Work closely with Matron, Deputy Director of Nursing and Clinicians in embedding the principles of Clinical Governance in order to maintain / improve and develop high standards of patient care.
• Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic study, clinical, leadership and management development.

Work and act as a role model for professional practice and leadership.

Manage people within allocated budget/s to ensure effective operation of the Ward/ Department Team

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN/RSCN to degree level
  • EPLS/APLS qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Relevant paediatric experience


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate substantial relevant experience in a relevant clinical setting at band 6 level
  • Experience in mentoring, assessing, coaching


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of change management


Communication

Essential criteria
  • Leading a team
  • Excellent personal and communication skills

  • Demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the Trust values
