Job Description Job title: Visiting Lecturer (Criminology)

Reports to: Deputy Dean of School

Main purpose of the job: The role holder undertakes a full teaching role as part of the academic team delivering an undergraduate or post graduate programme. We are seeking an experienced sessional lecturer in Criminology and Digital Forensics to provide short-term cover during a period of staff absence for undergraduate teaching in the first four weeks of term in a Level 5 Internet Investigation module from the current undergraduate programme as well as a Level 6 legacy module in Cybercrime from an earlier version of the course. The successful candidate will deliver scheduled teaching sessions, using existing module materials and the module Moodle site.

The modules concerned are: Level 5: SOCN241 Internet Investigation Level 6: CRMX249 Cybercrime An outline of SOCN241 can be seen under the Year 2 tab of the course web page, https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-courses/criminology-with-digital-forensics. The third- year module, CRMX249, offers legacy content required for the teach-out of a previous iteration of the course and can be seen here https://bit.ly/CRMX249_Cybercrime. Approximate duration of the assignment is w/c 28 September - w/e 23 October 2026, although some flexibility may be required. Teaching will comprise approximately 4-5 hours/week on campus per module, on different days.

Main duties and responsibilities: 1. Deliver timetabled weekly blended lectures, including in-class practical exercises, using materials

provided by the module lead 2. Maintain continuity of the syllabus, including the module's ethics, safety and responsible investigation

content 3. Support students with queries relating to coursework and practical exercises (e.g. open-source

investigation tools and OSINT techniques) 4. Provide formative feedback on any work due during or shortly after the cover period 5. Liaise with the module lead and programme team to ensure a smooth handover before and after the

cover period 6. Provide formative feedback to students and course leaders as required 7. Contribute to administrative work as required within the Department

8. Contribute to quality assurance and enhancement of all activities 9. To undertake any other requirements commensurate with the seniority of the post/as required by the

head of department

Education and Qualifications

Essential • a PhD or professional doctorate (preferably) or Master's in an

appropriate subject area (e.g. criminology, cybercrime, digital forensics, or a related field), or equivalent professional experience

Desirable • Fellowship (or above) of the HEA, or evidence of relevant teaching

experience • membership of relevant professional bodies or organisations

Knowledge and skills

Essential

• a broad understanding of relevant fields and knowledge of current developments, specifically knowledge of internet investigation, open-source intelligence (OSINT), or digital evidence topics

• a commitment to providing learning and teaching that is research- led or research-informed

• the ability to deliver high quality and supportive teaching and to foster skills and confidence in a diverse range of students at undergraduate levels

• commitment to providing high-quality academic and personal support to students

Desirable • familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g. Computer Misuse Act 1990, UK GDPR)

Work experience

Essential • experience of teaching at university level, or equivalent in a professional training context

Desirable

• experience of teaching at university level within a criminology or cybercrime related programme

• experience delivering GUI-based practical/lab sessions using free, browser-accessible investigation tools

• professional experience in areas relevant to the assigned modules Communication skills Essential • excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills

Other requirements Essential
