Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Job Duties
  • Deliver advanced clinical practice as part of the multidisciplinary team within the UTC and Emergency Department.
  • Independently assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of primary care and urgent presentations in adults and children.
  • Request and interpret investigations (e.g., imaging, pathology) to support clinical decisions.
  • Prescribe and initiate treatments as a non-medical independent prescriber.
  • Perform advanced clinical procedures and lead resuscitation when required.
  • Discharge patients safely and refer appropriately to other health professionals.

Main Responsibilities

    • Provide autonomous, evidence-based care for complex and undifferentiated cases.
    • Screen for early signs of disease and manage risk factors.
    • Carry out invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within scope of practice.
    • Ensure safe prescribing and medication management.
  • Leadership & Management
    • Act as a role model and provide clinical leadership across the UTC.
    • Contribute to service development, guideline creation, and quality improvement.
    • Support governance and risk management processes.
  • Education
    • Mentor and supervise trainee ACPs and other staff.
    • Deliver training and promote a culture of learning and professional development.
  • Research
    • Engage in audit and research to improve clinical practice.
    • Apply evidence-based strategies and disseminate findings

Role Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Registered healthcare professional
  • Completed Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (including independent prescribing and dissertation).
  • Experience in primary care settings, including paediatric assessment.


Desirable criteria
  • Paediatric assessment course or experience assessing paediatric patients.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience in acute or emergency care.
