This is an exciting time to be working within Uniform fitting and tailoring for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there's the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as a uniform fitter and tailor, there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service.
Our uniformed officers and staff need to be properly equipped in order to keep London safe. This role is vital in ensuring that our officers are provided with the uniform and protective equipment they need to provide a professional appearance and to keep them safe whilst performing their duties. At a time when the MPS will experience an unprecedented increase in uniformed officer numbers, you will be responsible for seeing new recruits to measure and alter their initial kits, as well as providing an expert measuring and fitting service of specialist uniform items for experienced officers and specialist units. You will see a variety of clients, from Neighbourhood officers, specialist firearms officers, motorcyclists and horse riders to name but a few, all of whom have specific needs from their uniform and equipment.
This role will involve visiting student officer classes across the MPS to take 15 unique body measurements, inputting these into a database and making alterations to clothing items to ensure a perfect fit. You will use your expertise to instruct officers the correct way to wear specialist protective equipment to ensure their safety in dangerous situations. Flexibility is key, as travel to different locations within the MPS is required, especially to locations where our officers are trained such as Hendon, Marlowe House and Belvedere where our tailoring services are performed.
