Job overview

To ensure that patients admitted onto the orthopaedic trauma ward are appropriately assessed and to ensure that all pertinent test, specialist investigations and clerking are completed and available. Liaising and ensure these have been undertaken by all disciplines involved inpatient care.

Main duties of the job

Work as an independent practitioner supporting with management of patients with Orthopaedic needs whist requires inpatient care.

Facilitate and support the effective and efficient management of the trauma caseload ensuring operative and other interventions are undertaken in a safe and timely manner

Act as a clinical expert and professional resource of the multidisciplinary team with the Trust

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Registered Nurse
• Registered practitioner to masters level or equivalent level of highly developed specialist knowledge
• Specialist Clinical Course (may include Surgical First Assistant, Advanced Assessment, and non-medical prescribing modules)
• Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
• Intravenous accreditation

Desirable criteria

• Masters in an appropriate subject

Experience

Essential criteria

• Experience Extensive experience as Sister/Charge Nurse
• Post registration experience including a substantial recent experience within the orthopaedic/trauma speciality

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working as a trauma CNS

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Extensive knowledge of orthopaedics
• Knowledge of the implications of fragility

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of the principles of enhanced recovery

Skills

Essential criteria

• Excellent communication skills Organisational skills
• Computer literate and able to use word, outlook and basic excel

Desirable criteria

• Advanced clinical nursing skills including physical assessment
