Job summary

Theatres Emergency, Vascular & Gynaecology Theatre Team Leader Band 6 - Full Time (Permanent)

The Theatre Team Leader will provide strong clinical and operational leadership within the Emergency Theatre environment, supporting vascular and gynaecology services. The post holder will be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with significant theatre experience and the ability to lead within a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.

The role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of patient-centred perioperative care, maintaining high professional standards while supporting and developing the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Some of the duties include:
  • Provide effective clinical and operational leadership to staff during each shift.
  • Support the Specialty Manager, Theatre Manager and Matron for Theatres, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Pain in the development and delivery of services, with specific responsibility forEmergency, Obstetrics and Vascular theatres.
  • Coordinate perioperative activity with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective theatre flow and continuity of patient care, includingout-of-hoursprovision.
  • Act as a professional role model, promotingAfPPvalues, a positive safety culture and effective communication.
  • Promote human factors awareness, situationalawarenessand professional challenge within the perioperative environment.

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with a recognised UK anaesthetic qualification
  • Teaching, leadership, or management qualification (or equivalent experience)
Communication Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication, including in challenging situations
  • Ability to lead by example, support team development, and role-model professional behaviours
Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of anaesthetic and recovery practice, patient safety, and perioperative standards
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice, clinical governance, safeguarding, and mental capacity

Experience

  • Perioperative and scrub experience with exposure to multiple specialities including emergencies and obstetrics
