- Monitor the quality of clinical care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards and take the lead on customer care initiatives.
- Takes the lead in ensuring the provision of care is in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures.
- In conjunction with the staff team, to lead in developing implementing, evaluating and maintaining a Departmental ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent patient centred care.
- To act as patient advocate in line with the NHS plan and to actively apply in depth knowledge of holistic/ socio-economic and cultural aspects of the care to clients within your specific speciality, acting as a role model and resource for patients, relatives and staff.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.
Person specificationEducation / Qualification Essential criteria - First level NMC Registered Nurse/ HCPC registered ODP
- Post registration education in a relevant speciality
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Evidence of continuing education and development
- Evidence of training in operational management and staff development
- Anaesthetic and Recovery experience at the senior level
- Degree qualification in a relevant subject
Desirable criteria - Working toward a Master's degree
- Teaching and assessing qualification
Experience Essential criteria - Current experience in a senior operating theatre role (Anaesthetic/Recovery) or senior staff nurse role (Anaesthetic/Recovery)
- Experience in recruitment, selection and retention of staff
- Experience of clinical governance issue such as investigation incidents/ complaints
- Evidence of organising and delivering education for multi professional staff
- Experience in staff development plans & appraisal process
- Experience of working with IT systems used in theatre
Desirable criteria - Experience in a senior leadership role
- Experience of disseminating work through presentation or publication
- Experience of managing financial budgets; cost containment strategies
- Experience of dealing with HR issues relating performance/capability
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Essential criteria - Good level of clinical skills within one or more of the perioperative disciplines
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to plan and prioritise own and other workload
- Knowledge/experience of clinical supervision

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our StaffAt The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
