Job summary

The Theatre Manager is a key senior nursing and operational leader within the Theatres, Pre-assessment and Pain Directorate. The post holder is responsible for the operational management, professional leadership and ongoing development of their designated service, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality patient care and an outstanding patient experience.

Working closely with clinical, nursing, operational and corporate colleagues, the Theatre Manager will lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, responsive and sustainable theatre services. They will be responsible for optimising theatre utilisation, ensuring compliance with regulatory, professional and trust standards.

We are seeking a theatre expert who is a kind, compassionate and inclusive leader. The successful candidate will provide a visible and supportive presence within clinical areas maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, quality and experience.

The Theatre Manager will be accountable for workforce planning, resource management, budget oversight, operational performance, quality improvement, governance and risk management within their area of responsibility.

The role requires strong clinical credibility, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across specialties, professions and hospital sites to deliver high-performing, patient-centred perioperative services.

Main duties of the job

  • As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral and discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care.
  • Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trust's evidence based procedural documents.
  • To have local open and transparent communication channels that support the team to do the right thing for people we care for, to be bold when they have good ideas and to speak up when things go wrong.
  • Act as a clinical expert within sphere of work.
  • Have continuous responsibility for the theatre area, providing visible professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing and support staff.
  • Ensure staffing is in line with Trust policy.
  • Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
  • Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area.
