Job overviewAre you an experienced Theatre Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with a passion for leadership, safety and delivering outstanding care for women and birthing people?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated
Maternity Theatre Lead Nurse/ODP to provide clinical, operational and professional leadership within our busy maternity theatre service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and developing a responsive, high-quality service while supporting the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and effective care 24 hours a day.
As the Maternity Theatre Lead, you will work closely with the Maternity Matron, Obstetricians, Anaesthetists, Midwives and Theatre Teams to ensure the highest standards of clinical practice, governance and patient experience are maintained.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the department; including budgetary awareness, clinical governance, staff development and training. The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable for. The post holder will be involved in the development of protocols / guidelines and patient information.

Person specificationExperience Essential criteria - Extensive experience of managing an area; including management of rotas, resources, budgets and staff.
- Experience in staff / practice development including undertaking appraisals
- Personal development plans
- Experience of audit / research based nursing practice
- Experience of resource management
- Experience of clinical supervision
Desirable criteria - Experience of analysing detailed information
- Experience of conducting own projects successfully and follow through action
- Experience of ITU/ HDU nursing
Skills and Knowledge Essential criteria - Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- Awareness of government led and professional issues relating to nursing / patient care
- Ability to identify patient and staff diversity issues and proactive in addressing of these in business planning and service provision
- Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management and how this effects their role and the department
- Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood
- Ability to administer prescribed medication including blood products
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong leadership and team working skills
- Computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Word and other health databases
- Ability to adapt staffing to changing patient need
Desirable criteria - Ability to actively participate in and develop initiatives from the NHS Plan
- Ability to use and Understand Electronic Patient Records (EPR)
- Ability to interpret and analyse complex data and findings.
Qualifications Essential criteria - BSc/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
- Management qualification or equivalent experience
- RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC
- Practitioner on the HCPC register
Other Essential criteria - The ability to undertake reflective thinking on own practice
- Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations
