Syndicate Reporting Manager

London or Colchester based with home working (2-3days per week)


Reporting to Head of Reporting

This is a great opportunity for a Reporting Manager to join a very efficient and dynamic team. We have 23 staff based in both our Colchester and London offices. The team is responsible for maintaining the ledgers, the internal and external reporting including IFRS, UK GAAP, Solvency II and tax of our three Managed Syndicates (33, 3624 and 6104), Managing agent and corporate member.

The Role

Based in Colchester and reporting to the Head of Reporting for Hiscox Syndicates Limited (HSL), you will manage the production of the external Lloyds reporting for the 3 managed Lloyd's syndicates, within the agreed working day timetable. The role includes the management of a high performing team of accountants and account assistants. You will work closely with different areas of the business such as actuarial, underwriting, claims, MI, group finance, treasury and investments, as well as all business units using syndicate capacity. Therefore being able to communicate with a range of people is a must.

What you'll be doing in the role

  • Manage all aspects of the production of Lloyds regulatory returns (QMA, QMB, US and CAD Trust reporting, TPD, GQD, F&P, TRIA, BEAT, SIS) for the three managed syndicates, ensuring all external deadlines are met in a timely manner.
  • Manage the production of the annual syndicate accounts, both on an annual basis and the underwriting year accounts
  • Work closely with the Head of Reporting in managing the quarterly and yearly close process ensuing all external deadlines to Lloyds are met.
  • Working closely with the Finance Operations Manager, ensure sign-off of all key Balance sheet financial reconciliations is completed, prior to using the syndicate Trial Balances for external reporting.
  • Alongside the Head of Reporting, become an SME (subject matter expert) for any projects relating to syndicate reporting such as the Finance Transformation Project and other group wide projects.
  • Working closely with the Head of Reporting, build a controlled and sustainable reporting framework post the implementation of Oracle, which meets the syndicates' reporting needs in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Work closely with the Director of Syndicate Finance and the Head of Reporting in developing and enhancing the syndicate financial control framework.
  • Manage,coach and develop the team whilst maintaining high manager effectiveness.
  • Liaise and build good relationships with the London HSL team, including travelling to London when necessary.
  • Manage the relationship with the auditors ensuing audit queries are answered and closed off in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Head of Reporting with any other adhoc tasks.


Person Specification:
Our must haves

  • Be a qualified accountant and/or have relevant demonstrable experience in a senior accounting role.
  • Experience of working in previous Lloyd's reporting role, 3 + years
  • Experience of general ledger processes.
  • Excellent people management skills, especially of high performing teams.
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular Excel.
  • Can maintain excellent attention to detail on completion of syndicate returns.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Confident communicator who builds good relationships across the business.
  • Self-motivated working as a team and individually.
