Due to increased funding for stroke intensity rehabilitation we are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to working as part of our neuro rehab team providing specialist stroke therapy to optimise quality of life.

We are looking for a Band 4 Ward Based Therapy Assistant Practitioner (TAP) with Stroke and/or Neuro experience to join the Stroke team. The role will be ward based on the stroke unit within Salisbury hospital working with a varied caseload including a range of neurological conditions within this specialised area.

Professional and specialist supervision is available from senior members of staff, and successful candidates will be working closely with all areas of the MDT.

Main duties of the job

Our ideal candidate will be confident with appropriate NHS ward based experience, clearly able to demonstrate a desire to participate in all aspects of the role. The role will be ward based which will require the candidate to work with their allocated patient caseload to facilitate all aspects of their stroke rehabilitation. This will include progressing and following physical and cognitive rehabilitation plans that have been issued by their allocated physiotherapist or occupational therapist and some group work. There will also be an expectation to lead on basic discharge conversations.

Essential

  • oFoundation degree or diploma equivalent to 240 academic credits, Level 5 of the qualification and credit framework (QCF) or diploma in a relevant subject e.g. healthcare. oNVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification (GCSE) in Maths and English, Grade C or above.
  • oRelevant and recent evidence of previous experience of working with stroke or neuro patients with direct client or patient contact.
  • oExperience of working under direct and indirect supervision.
  • oRecent experience of working in a therapy or nursing support worker role at Band 3 level or equivalent e.g. BSc student.
  • oExperience in dealing with the physical and emotional needs of patients or others.
  • oExperience of organising and prioritising own work
  • oKnowledge, underpinning theory of Occupational Therapy and/or Physiotherapy.
  • oEvidence of progressing treatment plans. oKnowledge of the use of walking aids and equipment.
  • oKnowledge of the process of rehabilitation and discharge.
  • oEvidence of prioritisation skills - ability to plan and organise own workload.
  • oEvidence of effective time management skills.
