Job summaryThe TSSU (Sterile Services) department is an enthusiastic team who workin a busy fast paced department. The Sterile Services Department reprocessessurgical instruments for the Trust and surrounding areas. The Trust is not only tackling thewaiting list backlog following the Covid pandemic but has also increased in Trauma procedures at the WRH. This has created moreSterile Services Assistant job opportunities within the TSSU department. Theshifts available are 2pm to 8pm Monday to Friday. This is a physically demanding role with repetitive tasks. This role involves periods of standing and manual handling duties with some sets weighing up to 13KG. The department offers a sixmonth on the job training programme. The department is looking to offer an NVQ qualification in thefuture. Opportunities do arise within the department to progress to aSupervisor and potentially a future manager. Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the role are the collection of used surgicalinstruments, preparing the instruments for the washer disinfector. Thereassembly of the surgical instrument trays, closely inspecting for cleanlinessand damage, wrapping of the surgical instruments. The sterilisation anddelivery of the reprocessed surgical instruments.
