Exciting opportunities have arisen at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust for dynamic, innovative, committed and skilled individuals for 12E. 12E Ward is a 24 bedded ward (with 12 bedded Monitored Unit) managing Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Head and Neck patients. The ward is based at Royal London Hospital and is seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated band 5 Nurses to join our fabulous team of nurses.

We welcome all nurses, including newly qualified, to this exciting and rewarding area, to work alongside our more experienced colleagues, to gain knowledge and skills. Our patient group is very diverse, with complex cases, as well as routine and emergency neurosurgery/ neurology , head and neck and max fax.

We offer a wide range of learning opportunities including in-house training as well as the Neuroscience and High Dependency Course. We have Neurotrauma and Spinal Clinical Nurse Specialists who offer their knowledge and experience to enhance your learning and experience.

We nurse highly acute patients, including those with tracheostomy, unstable spinal injury and major head injury, whilst making sure we provide an excellent standard of fundamental nursing care. It is challenging and enormously rewarding. The team is inclusive and supportive and is often described as being like a family...a very big one! We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic nurses at band 5 level.

Main duties of the job

This post offers an important role in the care and management of patients in an acute setting to provide patient centred care whilst ensuring a the smooth running of 12E. The Staff Nurse will be expected to enhance the well-being and promote the health of patients in Neurosurgery, Neurology , ENT and Head and Neck.

We aim to provide a first class and a safe level of care to patients and their relatives, whilst ensuring that the patient pathway is recorded and monitored
throughout treatment.

The nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate priorities of care and utilise available resources in an effective manner.

Please note: When calculating the basic salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High Cost Area Supplement) is not included for non-medical roles. This ensures fairness and consistency within our organisation, as some of our sites fall under inner HCAS, while others are classified as outer HCAS.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse with current, up to date NMC registration


Desirable criteria
  • Intravenous accreditation
  • Preparation for mentorship course.
  • Evidence of professional development e.g. Acute care skills training


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage the care of a group of patients and be aware of the escalation process of an unwell patient
  • Ability to reflect on practice
  • Knowledge of current professional issues
  • Evidence of positive contribution to the ward Team


Desirable criteria
  • 3-6 months acute care experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience in a Neuroscience setting


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Is able to demonstrate insight into the Neuroscience patient experience and has knowledge of some of the specific types of conditions that are cared for in the specific ward area
  • Ability to self reflect, carry out tasks of own job and identify what further learning is required to do current role more effectively
  • Ability to take an active role in agreed learning activities and keep a record of them
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging health care issues
  • Ability to identif deteriorating Patients
  • Ability to carry out essential and appropriate nursing care and procedures


Desirable criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge
  • Ability to plan, deliver and Evaluate interventions and/ or treatments
