Job summary

Barnsley Hospitalare looking to appoint a substantive Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia.

Duties of the post consists of providing Anaesthetic services to a wide variety of surgical lists either in conjunction with a Consultant Anaesthetist or solo, depending on experience, with support andoversight from a dedicated Consultant Anaesthetist. Non theatre based duties will involve working flexibly to providecover either for Obstetric Anaesthesia / Labour Ward and/or the Intensive Care depending on service requirements. Out of hours/ on call commitment is to either Obstetric Anaesthesia / Labour Ward or the Intensive Care Unit on a EWTD compliant 1:8 basis. Full time appointments will be for 10 PAs with the option to increaseto 11.5 PAs by mutual agreement. 1SPA is included in the 10 PA contract

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time willbe eligible for consideration for the post. If appointed, modification of thejob plan will be by mutual agreement with the Trust.

The post will appeal to appropriately trained clinicians, who arelooking to join a forward thinking, friendly and welcoming department with areputation for teaching and professional development. The post would suit adoctor with a minimum of two years anaesthetic experience and preferably the Primary FRCAexamination or equivalent who wishes to develop further supervised experiencein Obstetric Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

Main duties of the job

a)The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Lead and to theconsultant anaesthetists supervising them.

b) The successful applicant will becontracted to work 10 PAs if full time with an increase to 11.5 by mutualagreement.

c) Resident on-call will be on a 1:8 rotawith prospective cover and may be negotiable by mutual agreement between peersand accommodating departmental needs.

d) The post holder will be required:

i.Tokeep legible, comprehensive and detailed records.

ii.Tocommunicate fully and effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives.

f)Withinreason the post holders will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues.

g) The post holder will be asked to performadditional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

h) The post holder will be expected toparticipate in audit and educational sessions within the department. They willbe expected to be involved in the delivery of the clinical governance agenda.

i)It isanticipated that following consultation, the work programme of the postholdersmay change as services develop in line with the needs of the Trust.
