Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, effective and compassionate podiatric care and supporting patients across Merton to improve their foot health, mobility and quality of life?

This is an exciting time to join our thriving Merton Podiatry Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Podiatrist to join us as we continue to develop our services and introduce new ways of working.

You will have the opportunity to develop your specialist skills through clinical rotations in areas including biomechanics, wound care and nail surgery, while providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population, including patients with complex and high-risk needs.

We welcome applications from experienced Podiatrists, as well as newly qualified Podiatrists Band 5 looking for an exciting opportunity to develop towards a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist through our service development pathway.

Main duties of the job

• Work alongside the Specialist Podiatrist, Clinical Lead and wider healthcare professionals to provide seamless, safe and high-quality patient care.
• Undertake specialist clinics as part of a clinical rotation and CPD programme, including Biomechanics, Wound Care and Nail Surgery clinics.
• Autonomously assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate clinical assessment and diagnostic techniques.
• Deliver specialist podiatric interventions including sharp debridement, local anaesthesia, calculation of maximum safe doses, nail surgery and the appropriate use of caustic treatments.
• Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including GPs, Practice Nurses, Community Nursing, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and consultant-led secondary care teams, including Rheumatology and Diabetes.
• Take an active role in planning and delivering health promotion, education and training across the service and Trust.
• Promote the Podiatry Service to healthcare professionals and the wider community to support appropriate referrals and access to the service

Please note: This role involves a mix of clinic and domiciliary work, and the successful candidate will be required to undertake visits within patients' homes and clinic settings.

Essential criteria

• BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
• Current AHP with UK HCPC registration
• Evidence of continual professional and personal development
• Certificate in local anaesthesia

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of post grad training in specialist area(s) of podiatry

Experience

Essential criteria

• Post graduate clinical experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working.
• Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
• Experience of working as part of a specialist team (clinical rotation experience accepted

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working in an NHS environment
• Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
• Experience of service development

Skills

Essential criteria

• Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
• Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
• Knowledge of foot orthotic design and manufacture
• Knowledge of CoP code of conduct
• Understanding of Clinical Governance - theory and practice
• Knowledge of treatment options and skills required in the management of High-risk tissue breakdown.
• Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g., in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery

Key Attributes

Essential criteria

• Ability to cope with a busy demanding, varied workload & able to cope with the demands of moving between sessional clinics, on foot, by transport. This may include carriage of clinical equipment on home visits.
• Performing clinical treatments in physically restricted work positions requiring repetitive fine movements.
• Ability to cope with patient's anxieties and employ tactical techniques to help support patients and allay anxieties.
• Adaptable to a variety of working environments and the ability to cope with sometimes distressing settings and work tasks including wound care, neglected feet and exposure to malodour, body fluids including blood and wound exudate.

Desirable criteria

• Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
