• 1) To partake in specialist clinical pharmacy duties ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken specifically
  a. To lead, deliver and develop clinical pharmacy services to the Cancer surgical wards and specialities within NUH. To implement medicines management policies and ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in this service/speciality in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
  b. To provide patients and members of the multidisciplinary team with information about new drugs and developments to facilitate their safe and effective use.
  c. To provide a clinical pharmacy service to inpatient ward areas
  2) Leadership, management and directorate/service support roles
  3) To line manage and support more junior pharmacists in the listed directorates
  4) To take full part in the 7-day shifted rota and bank holidays duties

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

• B.Pharm/ BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
• GPhC registered
• Clinical diploma or equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Independent prescriber
• Evidence of CPD undertaken

Experience

Essential criteria

• Extensive hospital pharmacy experience (post registration) & wide knowledge base
• Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals
• Experience of leadership and management skills
• Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty

Desirable criteria

• Experience of cancer services and other specialist areas eg burns, urology
• Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
• Experience of leading and delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a specialty
• Experience of line management

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, both verbal and written
• Empathy with patients, relatives and pharmacy customers
• Confident and assertive; able to defend opinions in a constructive manner when challenged
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working at Pharmacy, Trust and regional level

Analytical and Judgment skills

Essential criteria

• Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes
• Ability to work alone and make decisions within agreed parameters and appropriate referral / escalation as necessary
• Experience in making judgements involving highly complex facts, which require analysis, interpretation and options appraisal
• Able to critically analyse information and evidence and to communicate the findings clearly in simple terms

Desirable criteria

• Able to obtain, interpret, analyse and report on drug expenditure for Trust staff

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria

• Ability to plan and organise existing and new clinical pharmacy services to a specialty. This may include creation and adjustment of plans based on research
• Ability to be flexible and manage change in a complex and changing healthcare environment
• Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills, able to motivate others, to manage time effectively and work to deadlines, even when under pressure
• Positive thinker, problem solver, ability to think laterally to develop new ideas

Physical skills

Essential criteria

• Good level of computer literacy and word processing /keyboard skills.
• Sound MS Teams, Word, Excel and Power- point skills and be able to retrieve information from the internet.

Desirable criteria

• High level IT skills (eg website or database design)
