Job summaryHampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has re-designed its Pathology services with new state-of-the art equipment and new laboratory, and with a new Lab Info Management System being installed later this year. An opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the field of Haematology and Blood Transfusion is now available.
The post holder will be highly skilled in the use of the latest techniques and complex instrumentation alongside more traditional manual methods of investigation. The individual will be expected to apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and knowledge to provide a timely result service to the clinician. The individual will be committed to formally maintaining their specialist skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self-education.
The post holder will enjoy supporting the development and training of registered BMS and associate practitioner colleagues and play an active role in maintaining high standards of quality management, as well as taking a lead role in a specific responsibility commensurate with a band 6 role.
Main duties of the jobWe provide a 24/7 diagnostic service andwe can offerfull timehours covering day, evening, night and weekends.
If you have the qualifications and experience (minimum IBMS specialist portfolio or IBMS accredited MSc) and wish to develop your knowledge and skills in haematology and blood transfusion, we are waiting to hear from you.
For this band 6 post you are required to have either of the following:
- An IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology / Blood Transfusion
- An IBMS accredited MSc
- BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice
If you do not meet this criteria, you may be offered a band 5 post with automatic progression to band 6 on completion of one of the above.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential - Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
- State registration with the HCPC
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio or IBMS accredited MSc in Haematology
- Experience in UK Haematology lab
Desirable - Membership of an other professional body
- Evidence of CPD
Experience & Knowledge Essential - Knowledge of haematology & transfusion acquired by lab experience and IBMS registration portfolio (or equivalent)
